A PERSON;S – SU:M (Breath)
(Seoul/South Korea)
Breathe, we are told. But how to act when the show is breathtaking ?
Described on paper as “the journey of a person who lives his life”, Breath shows a spectacular artistic performance : Sanghyun Seo, a man, dressed in white, climbs thirty meters high on a smooth rope hanging from a crane.
The ascent is arduous, strewn with pitfalls, there is risk, danger, the soul comes close to death. But, whatever happens, at all costs, the man continues his effort to reach the summit.
A highly poetic metaphor for existence, Breath also brings more intimate emotions to life within the audience – is this body floating in the sky an angel ?
A bird ? Does it take flight, or does it risk falling ?
What remains is purity, contemplative beauty, and this incredibly unifying moment of communion.
In residence for three years at the Seoul Street Art Creation Center – a space dedicated to the development of urban art founded in the heart of the Korean capital in 2016 – A PERSON;S is a collective of artists performing physical feats, while questioning the concepts of “life” and “things in contact with life”. A simple yet spectacular and poetic circus, available in several formats : “Act for Hope”, “Dumb Dumb (Owners Who are actually slaves)” and “Mom, What is Your Circus ?”
Direction artistique : Sanghyun Seo.
Production : Jin Yim. Régisseur : Jinkwang Cha.
Soutien à la création : Seoul Street Arts Creation Center – Soutien à la recherche (2020, 2021) et soutien à la création cirque (2022).
