Begat Theater – HOME/LAND

(Gréoux-les-Bains/France)

Conceived as a living installation, HOME/LAND can be explored in a gentle way, without any set temporality.
First there are these anonymous stories placed on lined up chairs, to be read under the light of a small lamp. Numerous testimonies collected by the company during its residencies, which talk about exile, identity, otherness, torn out or found roots.
Then, there is this caring dialogue that begins with a volunteer about the notion of “home”, and the ephemeral nature of everything.
Finally, each participant heads to the bar to concoct a herbal tea, choosing the herbs and flowers they want.
Beyond a show, Begat Teather’s work is an experience.

An intimate, personal and collective journey, generous and moving, which we keep within ourselves for a long time, warm just like a gift.

Although the company was born in New York in 1992, it was in the south of France that Begat Theater settled two years later, in Gréoux-les-Bains in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence to be precise. Made up of French and American artists, the troupe has been developing a multi-disciplinary, humane and poetic style of theater ever since. With them, the audience is active and participates in the show, and they were among the first to develop the concept of the sound stroll.
