Galmae – C’est pas là, c’est par là

Well before the show begins, Juhyung Lee sets up an astonishing rope structure step by step. He intertwines the threads in all directions, over several metres.
Complex tangle, dense and narrow network, one link, another, and another. Just like the web of a giant spider, the final result is chaotic but fascinating.
When the performance begins, it’s dark, the lighting plays with the shadows, the soundscape with the landmarks. Each audience member is invited to gently, patiently, unravel the structure, alone but together. You have to move around, avoid each other, throw looks at each other, cross bodies, each to their own but all interdependent in some way.

Galmae, directed by Juhyung Lee, offers a singular vision of performance in public spaces. Their creations C’est pas là, c’est par là and To the extent possible stand out for their innovative scenography. Devoid of text, these shows offer great freedom of imagination. Juhyung makes a point of allowing each spectator to interpret freely, emphasizing that interpretation belongs to the audience and not to the artist.
