Mathias Lyon – Seul Duel

For as long as he can remember, Mathias Lyon has felt out of place. Torn between his Native American origins and his childhood in the suburbs, the great outdoors and urban culture. Solitary, talented, scratched alive – “inadequate but luminous” – he created a universe for himself to not have to live in the real one.

Seul duel tells about the relationship between a man and his horse, animals, living things and general nature. A world on the margins, made of beauty and violence, poetry and ferocity. Fragile and wild at the same time. Mohawk skull, war painted body, a speed limit sign shield, the artist continues aerobatics and dances on a track surrounded by tires, but also in a state of trance, hybrid moves and
ritual practices.

According to him, it is by letting go of conventional markers that his message becomes readable. Let’s follow him.

Passionate about hip hop and drawing, Mathias Lyon joined Bartabas at the age of 17 and toured with Zingaro for ten years… before recently leaving the pack. As for Bubastis, he’s a five-year-old purebred Spanish stallion: when they met, the horse belonged to a cockfighting trafficker from the suburbs of Marseille. He’s fearless, ready to fight or to learn. In both cases, a fiery temperament. You could say they’ve found each other.
