Joan Català – Pelat
(Mataró – Espagne)
Taming a greasy pole!
Pelat is silence, waiting, strength, tension, magical and spontaneous taking part. Pelat is poetry of the body. Pelat is innovation, movement, collective action. Pelat is a risky, sincere, different, singular, and daring approach.
An original show bringing together dance, theatre, and circus. An author-driven creation based on the study of the body, movement, human behaviour, craftsmanship, and traditions.
Pelat is the first solo performance by Joan Català. A proposal that rids the boundaries between dance, circus, theatre, and performance art. A natural comeback to artisanal techniques and personal memories. A unique action that evolves through interaction with the audience.

Joan Català Carrasco, born in Barcelona in 1978, has developed a performance practice based on the dialogue between people, objects, and their environment. Trained first in visual arts and later in circus arts (acrobatic balancing) in Barcelona, Madrid, and Moscow, he further expanded his artistic background through contemporary dance, clowning, and physical theatre.
Since 2005, he has worked with various companies in theatres and festivals around the world. In 2012, he began developing his own vision of performing arts created specifically for the street and urban landscapes, through works such as Pelat, Menar, 5.100 m/s, and Idiòfona. He also works as an artistic consultant.
