The asylum interview: a cold machine in which a life must become a credible narrative. How do you prove that you are in danger? That you love “the right way”? Absurd. Indecent. And yet entirely real. In a brutal face-off, an officer and an exile confront one another, clash, and wear each other down. Question. Answer. Again. Until exhaustion, until the body says what words can no longer carry. Because everything must serve as evidence — the text, the silences, the gestures. Blending dance, theatre, and performance, the administrative appointment turns into an audition for survival; the asylum seeker performs for her life while the protection officer judges the quality of the interpretation. In a political climate saturated with security rhetoric and identity withdrawal, Nicolas Barry picks his side: exposing the violence of the system — while still allowing love and poetry to emerge.

Since 2019, Ensemble Facture has been creating a form of dance-theatre that favours fragility over spectacle. No crushing virtuosity, no obedient gestures; Nicolas Barry’s collective invents spaces of gentle, queer resistance against overpowering systems. Born from a project about video surveillance (Les obsèques du Grand Paon), the group creates manifesto-like plays that push back against the injunction to perform at all costs (Grand Crié, La Déclaration d’amour de Louis Hee à John Ah-Oui).
