Powerful, solid, unshakable: the masculine ideal, branded into bodies by patriarchal norms. A mythological figure embedded in flesh, inherited from a collective imagination where masculinity inevitably rhymes with domination, control, and authority. But how does a person become “masculine”? Through which rituals, which injunctions? With SUPERMÂLE, Nancy Naous dissects, gesture by gesture, the abyss between this imposed image and naked reality — that of a body in perpetual metamorphosis, constrained or liberated, assertive or fragile, displayed or concealed. Carnal and political, this solo transforms dabké into pounding rhythm, each movement cracking certainties open, stomping feet conversing with swaying hips, supple torsos, and trance states. What if masculinity were no longer a norm to reach, but a question to reinvent?

4,120 kilometres separate Beirut from Paris, the two anchor points of Nancy Naous (Palestinian mother, Lebanese father). Choreographer, director, and performer, she has spent nearly twenty years exploring the impact of family, social, political, and religious history on the body. Nourished by Middle Eastern traditions, especially dabké, she has developed with dancer Nadim Bahsoun a direct physical language in which movement becomes a symbol of memory and transmission.
